Earlier in the day, England’s resistance came to an end when captain Alastair Cook’s brave innings was brought to an end by an inside edge off Mitchell Marsh’s bowling, having made 96 off 233 balls.

Michael Clarke of Australia carried on his usual practice of not resorting to follow-ons, not sending in the hosts to bat again despite having the option. The Aussie openers responded to their captain’s call, putting up brisk runs.

Day 4 is set to see an Aussie attack in the first session, who will be looking to get runs in quick time so that England can be made to face the most amount of time in their effort to save the 2nd Test.
